Symptoms of a Yeast Infection

One of the most important things that must be considered in identifying the various symptoms of a yeast infection is that there are several types of infections that commonly occur in males and in females. Another of the common symptoms of a yeast infection is the presence of itching and irritability in the genital area. This is a better indicator of the condition compared to the discharge, since the presence of itching and irritability is generally experienced by all people with candidiasis. Apart from the itching, the genital area can also develop red spots and swelling. In women, the vulva is the part that is most prone to swelling and redness, while in males, the glans or the head of the penis is the part that can experience swelling.

Urinary tract infections are other symptoms of a yeast infection. In general, however, not all urinary tract infections are caused by yeast infections and may be diseases in themselves. When caused by yeast infections, it is due to the presence of discharge that has crept to the urinary tract and infected the urinary system. To distinguish between an independent UTI and one that is associated with yeast infection, the burning sensation which accompanies UTI should be inspected. With candidiasis, the burning sensation only begins at the tip of the penis or near the end of the vagina, since the irritated vulva or glans is the cause.

It is also important to consider the symptoms of a yeast infection in other parts of the body. This is because the condition can develop on many other parts of the body, such as the mouth and the skin. On the skin, one of the common symptoms of a yeast infection that develops is rashes that are very sensitive to the touch and which are slightly swollen and red. In the mouth, the common sign is the development of a yellowish growth on the soft palate, the gums, and the lining of the mouth. It will smell like beer or like old bread, similar to the scent that is found on the genital discharges caused by the same candidiasis albicans.

Once you have determined a yeast infection, curing it becomes fairly straightforward. Natural "holistic" approaches seem to work best due to the fact that they cure the underlying problems that lead to yeast overgrowth. The same can't be said for over the counter medications which all to often end in reoccurences of the disease. Immediate action is necessary once a yeast infection is discovered as if they are left untreated, the condition can worsen and quickly become muc more serious.
